General

1. About txtr

txtr manages your personal documents online. Here you can upload your texts to be able to access or use them from everywhere (eg Computer, iPhone, iPad, Android) later on.

The use of txtr is free.

2. What you should observe

Txtr reserves the right to delete a user account in case of legitimate reasons. More information can be found in our general business terms. Txtr tries hard to shield your documents against hacker attacks or hardware breakdowns.

3. txtr Data Privacy Statement

Your contact details will not be used for advertisements, sold or given in any way to a third party. With the use of txtr, you don't enter into any kind of commitment. For more information see our Data Privacy Statement.

4. How to register

Creating a personal account is easy: just click "Registration" on the main page and follow the instructions.

Use the link "Register" to access your personal account. This link is located in the top right.

If you access txtr from a public computer (e.g. in the public library or in a web café) remember to log out before you leave.

5. Changing account settings

When you click on the button "account", a drop-down-menu will appear. This allows you to change the settings of your personal account. Amongst others you have the possibility to change your password, or the billing or paying modalities.

6. What's new?

Amongst many technical achievements, the optimized usability is the most important change. Furthermore, our Online-Reading-Tool has been improved significantly.

We redesigned your complete library (My Documents). You will now find your books and documents much quicker. By using labels and a set of new functionalities you will manage your documents with ease.

All folders of your library, including the public ones, were replaced through labels. Now, only you have access to your, so far public, documents. The contact list and the txtr-intern mail function are not supported anymore.

The tools txtr clipping and txtr synchronizer are not available at the moment. But will be again soon. You will be informed at txtr.com as soon as they're available again.

How to organize your documents

You will find the most important control elements at the menu bar of txtr.com:

2. My Books – your library

To open your library click on "My Books" at the menu bar. The following functions are available:

  • upload new documents
  • add labels or meta-information (for e.g. author and title) to your texts and purchased books
  • find a book/text in your library by using the sort or search function

3. Upload new texts – how to

To upload new texts to your library you will have to press the "Upload" button. Afterwards select one or more documents from your hard-drive by pressing the "Select documents" button. After pressing the "Upload" button the selected documents will be imported to your library.

4. Add a label to your document

Underneath the documents name and author you will find the label area. In this area you can create new labels. For this purpose you have to press the button "+Add a label". To add or remove an existing label to a document use the menu item "Add/remove label..." located in the pull-down-menu (triangle). To assign a specific lable to one more documents select the desired documents and press the "Action" button.

Finding and reading documents out of the library

1. How to find a specific document in your library

There are 3 ways to find a specific book at your library:

  1. show all documents tagged with a specific label
  2. sort by date, author, title or publisher
  3. search field

2. Read your documents in the browser

By clicking the title of a document it will be displayed in your browser. The online-document-viewer can only display documents which are not provided with the digital rights management (DRM), e.g. PDF- or free ePub documents. The online-document-viewer offers different functions, depending on the file-format. Within an ePub documents you can e.g. change the font size or switch between chapters. If you want to view your document in full screen-mode you will have to use the full screen-function of your browser as well.

    move within the chapter

PDF (extract)

  • arrow keys (right + left)
    next or previous page

    zoom in or out

3. Change the meta-information of your documents

In the pull-down-menu (triangle) you will find the menu item "edit info". In this section you can edit e.g. the title and the author of the document.

How to acquire, recommend and comment books

1. Find books in the store

On the start page of txtr.com you will find a little extract of the bestellers of the store. To enjoy all of the available stock range of the store you just need to click on "Store" at the menu bar.

Beside of the recommendations of the different genres, the bestsellers, most read or the new books you can browse in the store by selecting your favorite genre at the menu bar.

If you already know the title or the author of the book you are looking for you can enter his information in the search bar in the upper section.

2. Restrict your search

At the selection of your favorite genre you have different opportunities to restrict or refine your search.

You can choose from this list of filter methods:

  • Choice of language (for e.g. EN/DE)
  • Definition of price or price range

After making your desired filter settings you can sort the search results in the next step by relevance, date or price.

3. Comment an ebook on Facebook

Underneath of the blurb you will find the Facebook plugin. With this plugin you can share your comments with your friends on facebook.

Digital Rights Management (DRM)

1. What is the Adobe ID?

You have to get an Adobe ID in order to be able to read your ePub-documents on more than one device (Computer or Reader).

The Adobe ID constitutes a personal key for the copy protected ebooks. Every DRM-protected ebook has to be fulfilled with an Adobe ID. This ensures that the ebook can be read by the owner only and prevents unrestricted duplication.

For more information about how to create an Adobe ID and the associated software "Adobe Digital Editions" please see the section "How to read ebooks with Adobe Digital Editions".

2. How you enable your Device for DRM-protected ebooks

To read DRM-protected ebooks on your device you will have to enter your Adobe ID on every device you want to use. On the iPhone/iPad/Android App you will have to enter it at settings area.

3. On how many devices may I read my ePub (DRM) document?

You may read your ePub (DRM) document on up to six devices.

4. What to do when you have exceeded your maximum of activations.

In this case you need to request Adobe to reset your Adobe ID: http://www.adobe.com/support/digitaleditions/

To do so follow this Intruction:

  1. click "Submit a web case" (on the right)
  2. sign in with your Adobe ID
  3. at the bottom of the page you find "Choose issue type". Select "Using a Product or Service"
  4. mark "Additional Products"
  5. select "Adobe Digital Editions"
  6. now the support form shows up. Your "Brief Description" might be "Please reset my Adobe ID" and in the "Please describe your issue" field, just type in the reason for your request (for example: "The Number of my activated devices exceeded. Can you please reset my ID so that I can read my ebooks again?")

5. Adobe Digital Editions: your ebook reader for your computer

If you want to read a DRM-protected ebook on your computer you will need an Adobe ID and the software "Adobe Digital Editions". The basic function of the Adobe ID is explained at the section "What is the Adobe ID?".

You will find the free software "Adobe Digital Editions" at the Adobe website: http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/

At the installation of the software you will have to create or enter your existing Adobe ID. With this Adobe ID you will have to fulfill every ebook you buy. Therefore you can only read this fulfilled ebook on your device if you are logged in with your Adobe ID.

To finally read your ebook with “Adobe Digital Editions” you only have to make a right-click on the title of the ebook.

Common questions

1. Adobe Digital Editions shows the message Error #2038 when you try to open a document with.

This error occurs if:

  • Digital Editions is not able to connect to the Adobe servers. Check your Internet connection and firewall settings.
  • Your ePub has somehow been removed from the Digital Editions Folder. In this case, please remove the affected Item from your Library, download the access key from the txtr store again and reimport the ePub to Digital Editions.
